Height - 50 cm, weight - 3000-3100 g.
It is possible that your baby will decide to be born this week. Everything is already prepared for him for an independent "leap into the unknown."
Science today does not know why babies prefer to be born on one day or another. But your child, apparently, has some calculations of his own, perhaps not related to science.
One way or another, but the baby is mainly busy only with getting fat. Maybe with a greater mass it is easier for him to decide? But there are cases when miniature babies weighing about 3 kg were chosen for the world earlier than massive sturdy ones under 4.5 kg.
At 39 weeks, the child's brain is developed, the left and right hemispheres work actively and synchronously. When he sleeps, dreams take half the time. Special antibodies help the body's immune system get started. Now the child will enter our world protected and will receive time to adapt.
You may not gain any weight at all this week, or even lose weight. This is one of the signs of the oncoming birth. There is nothing wrong with the fact that you get fat. Accept that your body is now living completely autonomously from you.
You have completed everything that is required of you - for 39 weeks you carried the baby, fulfilled all the requirements of the doctors, and also patiently listened to the sometimes annoying recommendations of your mother and friends. You were worried and worried about any nonsense. You courageously endured toxicosis, your own clumsiness, various pains and discomfort.
All. Now you can rest. You carried out the child for the prescribed period, he is already preparing to be born, and only he and your body know when this will happen. Enjoy the last days of rest - hard work ahead - childbirth.
It is likely that you have already begun a gradual, very slow dilation of the cervix. This preliminary stage of labor can take even a few days before the real contractions start and you go to the hospital.
Although you already know a lot about how childbirth proceeds, it's still scary to go to the hospital for the first time. Try to set yourself up to be positive. Our hospitals, of course, are not fun, but maternity hospitals are, apparently, the only type of medical institution in which it is pleasant to be. Probably because newborn babies fill even the most ordinary maternity hospital with their light energy.
Let's talk about what awaits you when you cross the threshold of the clinic. First, you will be formalized. That is why we do not recommend that you delay your arrival, it is better to arrive earlier, when the contractions are still quite tolerable, since official events await you.
You will change into a maternity shirt and bathrobe. No matter how funny and ridiculous they seem to you, still dress them. At childbirth, you will not have time for beauty, but you do not mind if you get dirty.
Then you will have a doctor's examination, as well as filling out a medical card (this is done by a nurse). This is where your document folder comes in (see article 30 weeks pregnant).
After the examination, procedures are waiting for you: enema and perineal shaving. It is they who always cause horror and awe in women. In fact, this is an elementary hygiene requirement. Why do you need extra hair where your baby's head will go? Do you want to blush when you push yourself because you couldn’t keep your bowel movements? Not! But women still do not like either shaving or enemas, apparently, they are simply shy.
You can avoid shaving by doing this yourself at home in a comfortable environment. Better not to use a razor with a razor blade - it can be just dangerous with your stomach. Use a depilatory cream or ask your husband to help you.
It is better to do an enema in the hospital in order to certainly cleanse the rectum before childbirth (you are unlikely to be going to have a hearty dinner during labor). Taking into account the fact that for many pregnant women the problem of constipation is actual, a good high-quality enema is just a boon for the body. The toilet and shower are located right in the room where you are being treated, so you can calmly tidy yourself up.
Then you find yourself in the birth block, that is the name of the place where you will give birth. There is usually a special chair, it’s a gurney, it’s a bed on which you will be put. However, you can not lie, but do whatever you please. But if you use an epidural, your mobility will be limited (see article 38 weeks pregnant).
Now your task is to wait for the full disclosure of the cervix and endure the contractions. You need to know that medical personnel will not be with you all the time for several hours while the disclosure is in progress. Midwives usually examine you at intervals of 15-20 minutes, and then run away to examine other women in labor or have given birth.
Don't worry, nobody left you. The whole team will gather around you when the disclosure reaches 6-7 cm, and labor will gradually begin to enter the final phase.
That is why it is very good to take your husband or mother with you to childbirth (decide for yourself who will help you most). If anything happens, your assistant will call the obstetrician, and provide assistance in labor, and entertain with conversations. However, this, of course, is up to you and only you.
The very presence of the baby's dad at childbirth is still the subject of lively discussions: is it necessary or not? As you know, our mothers and grandmothers gave birth completely in isolation from men, and the child was shown to them through the window, so to speak, "secretly", and fathers were allowed to the maternity hospital only for discharge. Isn't this the reason that we now have a rather irresponsible attitude of men to their own fatherhood?
Among the positive aspects of the presence of a husband at childbirth, several can be indicated.
The first moment is psychological. By participating in one of the most important events in the life of not only himself, but also his child, a man experiences a moment that gives meaning to all the 9-month torments of his family.
For a woman, the meaning and value of pregnancy arises almost immediately after she learns about it. For a man, this is not so obvious and, rather, even problematic.
He does not feel the internal changes that the woman is experiencing, but he experiences her mood swings, changes in her figure, worries about her health, worries about what will happen when the child is born and whether he, like a man, can support the whole family ... In this, all real events somehow arise and take place independently of the Pope. After all, mom and only mom feel how the baby grows, how it starts to move, how it hiccups, etc.
Dad understands that he is not able to somehow influence events, does not feel his usefulness. Therefore, his active participation in childbirth gives him the opportunity to prove himself and show himself really very actively and in an extremely useful role for mother and baby - an assistant during childbirth.
The second point is practical. Many dads sincerely don't understand what they can do in childbirth. And they do not understand because their idea of childbirth is cinematic and stereotyped: a woman screams heart-rendingly, doctors are around her, then a child appears. In such a picture, there really is no place for dad. But in reality, this is not the case.
During those few hours while the expectant mother is in the labor block for contractions, the father can:
- call doctors when needed;
- to control the doctors and make a decision for the mother, if the mother does not think well because of the pain. In an emergency, the dad is able to calmly ask the doctors what kind of medicine they are going to inject, why they want to use this or that intervention. And doctors are obliged to answer all his questions;
- bring, carry, bring everything that is needed, but which, perhaps, was forgotten in haste and excitement; v measure the frequency of contractions and record them;
- distract the wife from pain, amuse her and entertain her in every possible way;
- and, finally, most importantly, a man is able to facilitate contractions.
You need to find out how to do this in advance by attending courses or reading the relevant literature. There are certain massage techniques (in the area of the sacrum, lower back) that will help relieve muscle tension. Sometimes it is required to take one or another position and the woman in labor needs the support of her husband.
Dad can also use contrasting applications of warm and cold (such as bottles) and make sure that warm and cold are always at hand. In addition, a woman who is struggling with pain should be constantly reminded to relax and help her change her body position or walk around the room if possible.
In the most difficult time - on attempts - even a simple touch of a loved one can give a woman additional strength. It is quite enough for a man to just be there and stroke his hand.
The objection that men put forward when they refuse to attend childbirth is usually: "Well, I’m going to faint there." Apparently, too, immediately imagining a cinematic version of childbirth with blood and screams. That from which one can faint occurs at the very end - at the attempts, the birth of the head and the child.
If dad starts to play naughty nerves, he can leave the rodblock at that moment. The period when there are contractions and when the beloved husband is so needed nearby is not at all characterized by profuse bleeding, there may be only a few drops of blood and they will not be very noticeable under a nightie and a dressing gown. Everything is sterile and not scary.
But in any case, you should not insist if the father is not ready to attend the birth. It is not the very fact of presence that is important, but a conscious choice and the ability to help in a difficult situation. If, instead of taking care of yourself and contractions, you have to pump out your husband, then it is better to leave him at home.
And finally, the long-awaited moment - your child was born. Do not forget - it should be placed on your belly and applied to your chest. If the nurses suddenly forgot about it - remind.
That's it, you have worked hard and will now rest. The child will be weighed, measured, swaddled and taken to the nursery for a couple of hours so that you can come to your senses.
You will be given an ice pack, put it on your lower abdomen - this helps to contract the uterus. Usually at this time the woman in labor is lying on a gurney in the corridor, she is not yet being taken to the ward. Sometimes it outrages, they say, they threw it.
In fact, they didn’t give up, but they are watching you for about an hour, just at the same time, doctors and obstetricians are cleaning up the birth block and writing reporting papers.
We can say that this is not a very beautiful combination, but on the other hand, you are under supervision in case something suddenly goes wrong (reaction to the end of anesthesia, sudden bleeding, and other troubles). If you were in the ward at this time, it would be much more difficult to observe you.
If you have the strength to resent the corridor, then everything went just fine! You will soon be transferred to the postpartum ward, where you will spend another three days. Your baby will also be delivered there, if you have chosen a maternity hospital where the children are with their mothers. It's not as scary as you thought, is it?
