Height - 48 cm, weight - 2800 g.
If you are carrying twins, the birth usually takes place at 37-38 weeks. There is some chance of giving birth early if this is not your first child. However, there is no clear dependence, many gave birth to the first child earlier, and the second later.
In any case, remember that you can give birth at any time! The baby sinks more and more into the lower pelvic region, every day closer and closer to the exit. Because of this, pains occur in the perineum, spine, legs become almost familiar.
He is almost completely wrinkle-free - the skin is smooth and pink. The child continues to gain 14 grams per day. In the brain, myelin is formed at a tremendous rate, which conducts nerve impulses. By the way, for some parts of the brain, this process will continue after birth.
The average weight gain this week is about 13.5 kg. The height of the fundus of the uterus is 37 cm. This week you have your usual urinalysis, as well as a blood test for HIV and hepatitis. At 37 weeks, every third woman gives birth. Have you already packed your bag for the hospital? If not, read the list of essentials in the 36 weeks pregnant article.
Chances are, your belly will drop this week. Place your palm in the depression between your chest and stomach. If it fits there freely, the belly has dropped and there are only a few days left before your birth.
When the stomach is down, breathing becomes much easier. The uterus will put less pressure on your internal organs, with the exception of your bladder (more frequent trips to the toilet) and rectum (problems with bowel movements).
We hope by this week you have already spoken with your doctor about how your labor will go and if there is an indication for a cesarean.
Many mothers, out of fear of labor pain, even dream of caesarean. Of course, this is much easier: they do anesthesia, get the child out, everything is quick and does not hurt.
But it just seems like a caesarean section is the best way out. In fact, this is a very serious operation, which is incomparably more dangerous compared to natural childbirth.
This operation is not prescribed at the request of a woman, there are certain strict indications for her, namely:
- fetal hypoxia;
- any defects in the development of the fetus, causing the risk of injury during childbirth;
- pelvic or other abnormal presentation of the fetus (see 35 weeks of pregnancy);
- presentation or placental abruption;
- an abnormally narrow pelvis, i.e. not just narrow, but abnormally narrow, so much so that the baby's head cannot pass through the birth canal;
- prolapse or squeezing of the umbilical cord;
- the second cesarean (but some women after the first cesarean can give birth to a second child naturally, under the supervision of a doctor, of course);
- hypertension, diabetes mellitus or kidney disease in the mother;
- the state of preeclampsia or eclampsia in the mother (see article for 31 weeks of pregnancy);
- mother's infection with herpes by the beginning of labor. Caesarean is done in order to avoid infection of the child during his passage through the birth canal;
- delivery delay by more than 2 weeks from the planned date;
- multiple pregnancy.
At the same time, for most women, it is impossible to foresee exactly whether a cesarean is needed or not before the start of labor itself.
The operation itself consists in the fact that the baby and the afterbirth are removed from the uterus through an incision. General anesthesia is usually not given; an epidural is sufficient. The doctor opens the uterine cavity and fetal bladder, takes out the baby, and then removes the placenta and membranes. Then sutures are applied. The entire operation takes approximately 40-60 minutes.
The disadvantages of a cesarean section are that there may be complications as with any operation (shock, blood loss, infection, injury to neighboring organs). Of course, such horror rarely happens.
Among the disadvantages that everyone notices is the much longer recovery of the mother after childbirth. If a woman who gave birth naturally, after a couple of hours after giving birth, is able to lead a completely normal life, then a mother has a hard time with cesarean.
It usually hurts her to move very much (the stitches heal), she is injected with painkillers and given antibiotics. It is difficult for her to pick up her child (he is too heavy and painful). Full recovery of the body after a cesarean section takes 4-6 weeks!
The general conclusion of all mothers is: no matter how afraid you are of natural childbirth, they are the best option, if there are no contraindications. And you need not be afraid, but rejoice that the operation will not be performed on you.
On the other hand, if you are scheduled for a planned cesarean section, then you should not be afraid either. Now it is done very carefully. If earlier a woman could not do more than two Caesarean, therefore, she could give birth to no more than two children, today many give birth to a third and fourth child, some even in a natural way.
