Future child

Height - 29-31 cm, weight - 600-700 g.

The baby is already comparable in size to a small doll. It is still reddish pink and covered with a thin lanugo down, which begins to darken by the end of 6 months. But on the baby's head there is also the first real hair, as well as eyelashes and eyebrows.

His facial features take on individuality - he is now almost the same as you will see him after giving birth. He knows how to show primary facial expressions: frown, curl his mouth, wrinkle his lips.

By the end of 24 weeks, it will occupy almost the entire space of the uterus, but for now it still has enough room to move. The kid uses it with might and main and actively moves for pleasure.

Scientists have found that a child can sleep and even dream. From an hour, he sleeps 50 minutes, moves for 10 minutes and has fun (plays with arms, legs, umbilical cord, listens to what is happening with his mother).

The baby builds up subcutaneous fat and very soon its amount will allow the baby to maintain the temperature balance of the body outside the womb. If the baby is born at this time, he will not yet be able to provide himself with sufficient thermal protection on his own.

The development of internal organs continues. The most important of them is the appearance of a special film in the baby's lungs, which prevents the lungs from sticking together during inhalation and exhalation. This allows the baby to survive if he is born prematurely.

The mass of the brain is increasing at a cosmic pace: from 24 g at the 5th month to 100 g at the sixth!

The pancreas actively produces insulin. This hormone is essential for maintaining the active growth of a child. Both the mother and the baby produce their own insulin, and they do not exchange this hormone with each other. So if a pregnant woman has diabetes, then she does not tolerate it any easier than a non-pregnant woman.

The baby's hearing is developed so much that he hears pretty well everything that happens around his mother, and moreover: receiving maternal hormones, he physically feels any mother's emotion. Therefore, try to control yourself and get rid of as many stressors as possible.

Your psychological state may now be unstable, so we recommend that you use the services of a psychologist to prepare for childbirth and the postpartum period.

Future mom

The average weight gain by the end of 6 months is 7 kilograms. Further, the weight will be gaining rapidly, so do not be alarmed or upset, you cannot do without it - the baby is growing.

Many women at this time feel a brutal appetite and this is understandable. And some are ready to eat very strange things: earth, leaves, raw steaks. This is called "perverse appetite". Fear not, it will soon pass. If you are gaining too much weight, then with the permission of the doctor, fasting days (kefir + apples) can be carried out.

Avoid fatty foods, strong coffee, sandwiches and fast food. It is better not to eat after 20.00, and after eating, go outside for at least half an hour. Don't forget about calcium-containing foods (such as cottage cheese or milk).

At 6 months, the mother can feel not only the baby's movements, but also the so-called Braxton-Hicks contractions. This is just an imitation of real contractions, thus the uterus prepares itself for childbirth. "Braxtons" are distinguished from real contractions by their irregularity and relative rarity: no more than 2 times per hour and 5 attacks per day.

During a visit to a doctor, you must pass the usual tests: a clinical blood test, blood biochemistry, a general urine test. During a blood test, your hemoglobin level should be checked to rule out the possibility of anemia (lack of oxygen in the blood).

The main problem this month is swelling. You need to check your body daily for swelling. If there is swelling only on the legs, this is normal, you should not worry. You should start worrying if you find swelling in the hips, knees, abdomen.

Try to eat less salt, which retains water in our body. It is strictly forbidden to use diuretics and renal teas.

The next danger is varicose veins and thrombophlebitis. For prevention, you can use special tights, and also try not to sit cross-legged, change your position more often.

From the end of 6 months, possible birth is no longer considered a miscarriage, but a premature birth. They are dangerous for both mother and baby. Their signs:
- regular contractions more than 5 times per hour;
- bloody scarlet discharge;
- Acute or pulling pain in the lower abdomen and lower back;
- water discharge is possible.

If any of these signs appear, call your doctor immediately. Do not forget that now you need to see your doctor at least once every two weeks.
